September 2nd is also the birthday of my wife, Marilyn, who passed away 15 years ago. Long before she left us, I wrote the following poem and dedicated it to her.

TRUE NORTH

Why is this star preferred above the rest,

For brightness, color, clarity or size?

What qualities make this star the best,

Her twinkling blink which catches every eye?

Some other stars shine brighter, yes it’s true,

Or have more glitter in their twinkling.

Yet others have a multi-colored hue

And come to life at sunset’s first inkling.

This star awaits the darkness to shine forth

Holding fast amidst the whirling heavens.

In her fixed path she always points True North

Seeking nothing for all assistance given.

Why is this star of stars so highly treasured?

She’s the star, against which, stars are measured.
