What is Spirit Walking?

Spirit Walking is not connected with any religion, although I have read some people incorporate Spirit Walking into their religious beliefs. Spirit Walking is a methodology which dates back to prehistoric times. It is the ability to enter into a state of consciousness between sleep and dreaming on one hand, and wakeful consciousness on the other. In this state it is possible to make contact with helpful spirits who reside in the spirit world.

I was blessed to learn Spirit Walking two years ago and I want to share this blessing with you. As of today’s date, June 12, 2013, I have journeyed to the spirit world over one hundred times. Each journey has been unique. Each journey has been worthwhile. . Spirit Walking is easy to accomplish. With simple instructions you can journey there, contact spirit friends, and return in fifteen to twenty minutes. It is safe. Virtually anyone can do it.**

The main reason people journey to the spirit world is to help/heal themselves, their friends, their family, their community or the earth in general. The goal of spirit walking is to make us better spiritually, to enhance our sense of compassion for others, and to bring us into closer contact with nature and the earth itself. As we improve individually, the world becomes a better place to live. It is our opportunity to become the change we wish to see in the world.

To find our more about Spirit Walking, check out the Introduction category of my blog site. This will provide you with an overview of the process. Then check out the books I recommend reading. They will provide you with more detailed information and explanations.

Finally, you can check this blog periodically to read about my experiences, to learn from the experiences of others, and to share your experiences with our online community. May God bless you, your family and friends, and your efforts to learn more about this spiritual path.

**DISCLAIMER: If you are under the care of a psychiatrist or psychoanalyst, or if you are taking medication which affects your cognitive process, check with your doctor or other care giver before attempting to make a journey to the spirit world. I also believe you should never do Spirit Walking while under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

Treashka, thanks for your comment. Spirit walking and dreaming are not the same kind of activity. Spirit walking is just another name for shamanic journeying. In spirit walking the person making the journey is always aware of their physical surroundings at the same time they are journeying. They are completely in charge of the journey, when it begins and when it ends.

In dreaming we are usually unaware of our physical reality until the dream is over. You might want to check out some books on analyzing dreams. You may find them in your local library or bookstore. Even so, according to the great psychiatrist Carl Jung, the most accurate analysis of dreams comes from the person who has the dream. That’s because the symbols and events of the dream have come from reference points that are in our unconscious minds. Try working with an important person or symbol in your dream. Ask yourself what it could mean. Then sit quietly for a moment or two and see if an answer pops into your head. If you get nothing, try another symbol or person. With a little practice you should start getting answers. Hope my answer helps you.

Hello Paul, I think my mother spirit walked to me last week, but she doesn’t recall it. During the event, I comforted her and was encouraging. Is it possible for someone to spirit walk and not know it? She was going through a difficult time, which I found out afterwards.

I have not had that type of experience. However sometimes a part of a person’s soul may separate in order to avoid facing the experience of mental, emotional or physical pain. This is where soul retrieval comes in, to return that separated part. Perhaps you comforting your mother’s spirit helped return it to her. My experience is that people do not usually know they lost a soul part, but they do have an empty feeling, like something is missing. Thanks for your question. Hope my answer is helpful.

Hi Paul, thank you for your wanderful article. I was wandering, is there a difference between spirit walking and astral projection?

    • pjm5544
      Apr 27, 2016 @ 08:50:10

Thanks for your question. I only had a couple of experiences I think were astral projection. On the other hand I have had hundred journeys to the spirit world. I find that people who journey to the spirit world are completely aware of their physical location at the same time they journey. Also, the person making the journey is completely in control and can end the journey whenever they choose. I don’t think this is as true in astral projection but my astral projection experiences are limited. Does this answer your question?

Astral projection isn’t the same at all their spirits never really leave their body completely they just go to a astrial plane if they leave their body there is a danger of getting lost with no guide

Earlier this week I took my walk. I’ve done it a few times now, but this time was extrordinary. Every time I walk I immagine myself in a plane of all grass and water with mountains In The background. This time I reached the lake as usual that I sit next to to meditate as a spirit. But this time there was a white figure standing before me. Within an instant the white figure changed immediately to a demon with no face other than a mouth full of sharp teeth. My body became paralyzed and I felt immediate fear. The area I was in became completely consumed by the darkness, and I felt so more alone than I ever have. I stuck it out and fought back. Shortly after I was lifted up off the ground and the darkness flashed pure blindingly white. I felt something pull and tug on my body and I watched as the blackness was pulled strait out of my body and watched as it disentigtated. I opened my eyes and felt so tired, physically and emotionally. I’ve heard of other people interacting with darkness in this state but this was absolutely not intentional. I took it as a sign to stop working on a project id been working on for the past 4-5 years as the area I go to in my walks is the very area I planed to make into a videogame. Although I watched the demon being pulled out and destroyed. I still feel something lurking with me. I don’t know what to do:(

Caleb, thanks for your post. First of all, you may want to learn how to banish negative energy from your environment. You can accomplish that by drumming or by learning a banishing ritual. In drumming, simply create a firm intention that the purpose of your drumming is to banish negativity. Then ask your spirit guide(s) to help. Drum for ten to fifteen minutes. Thank your spirit guide(s) and end the ceremony by stating that all spirits are free to leave the area. If you wish to learn a ritual I recommend you look online for a banishing ritual, see what comments others have made about its effectiveness, and select one with which you feel comfortable. It is important to fill the empty space of that negativity with goodness and light so the negative cannot return. See my comments about meditation that follow.

I won’t attempt to analyze your vision or dream because you are the best one to do that. However I decided to pursue this further by performing a reading for you using my Hawaiian Mana Cards. What follows is an overview of the reading. I asked the cards what advice I should offer to you based on your post.

First card: The main issue here is oriented toward your emotions. Emotions are like waves. The have great power but they ebb and flow. Go with the flow of your emotions until you feel them lose their power. Then you can analyze them more easily and understand them better.

Second card: You are being properly guided and protected by strength, probably your own strength.

Third card: Trust that the universe will provide for your needs. Any action you take should be for its own sake, not for some hidden agenda.

Fourth card: Power comes to those who develop their talents with patience over time. Breathing meditation is a great way to help yourself increase your power.

Fifth card: This is not the time to focus on a goal or outcome. Instead, submerse yourself in uncertainty and the flow of your emotions. Get in touch with your intuitive nature. Ask yourself “What is it about me that needs to be healed?” Answers may come slowly. Create time for yourself to play, to dance and to be you.

Hope you find this advice useful. God Bless!

I was wondering, what are some other names for Spirit Walking?

    • pjm5544
      Jul 18, 2016 @ 11:35:14

It can also be called journeying or journeying to the spirit world. It falls under the broad category of shamanic practice. I use spirit walking because I do not claim to be a shaman. However I have found that this activity is effective for helping myself, my friends and my family. Thanks for your question. Hope my answer helps. If you want more info you might want to check into books on shamanism at your local library.

Luis, Thank you for your posts on my blog. I haven’t let all of them go public because you mentioned you are 10 years old.

The fact that your father and sister have spirit walking experiences is interesting. Some people believe there is a genetic connection, although that’s just a theory. What’s important is that you know people who spirit walk. I recommend that you talk to your dad about your experiences.

I am not qualified to teach spirit walking so that’s why I hesitate to answer your ‘how to’ questions. Your best bet is to ask your father to teach you or help you find a qualified teacher. Hope my comments are helpful.

      Thanks again for your posts.

Ah. Well thank you! I know I’ve replied 4 years late to this but, I’m on a different account and I so happened to fall upon this again. I’m 14 now. The last time I left my body was about 2 months ago. I remember floating. Then slowly descending into the ground walking around the house and then a few steps outside my house, and then instantly feeling that I went back into my body.

I have asked my dad about it, he’s told me about his experiences when he was younger. Back then when I was 10. I guess he told me that to scare me, and not try to do it. Because my dad told me when did it he would travel places around his house, or around the country even. But he always felt something following him. He then found someone who knew about it, and he said he could help people, but he didn’t want to learn it.

Because he remembered he felt like something bad was going to happen to a person at work, and it did. Later that day at work years ago. About 20-30 years ago. His co-workers son died. And he felt guilty.

He only helped a person once, and they later thanked them for it. But he never did it again due to that guilt.

So I always knew there was good in being able to do it, and bad as well.. Like I said before, my dad said it was dangerous, due to maybe his experiences as a kid, and also scaring me away from doing it. But now, As I’ve got older and asked him. He’s told me his experiences again, but he told me to be careful, and warnings. I don’t think he’s willing to teach me though, due to him feeling guilty. So I never asked again. But like I said at the beginning I’ve done it again 2 months ago, and I thought about it again. I’d like to learn it to help the people in my life, and also travel places I wouldn’t be able to every-so-often. Of course, I wouldn’t go too far because I don’t want to risk anything.

Please send me more information on spirit walking. I’m having problems understanding what’s going on in my life now. I’ve been having a lady bug in my room for awhile now. I know their life span isn’t long but I keep getting them in my room. Also, been dreaming of my ex-fiance that died last October.

Denise, thanks for leaving your comment. I have a friend who gets lady bugs in the family room every time the weather warms up. I don’t know how to get rid of them, unless you use bug spray (ugh!). When my wife died 18 years ago I had dreams of her that were not based on our past life. I finally decided she just wanted to keep company with me for a while. I felt it was reassuring and that she was in a good place in the next world. They mostly stopped after 6 months or so. I still see her in my dreams once in a while. Regarding spirit walking, I recommend you check out two books: Introduction to Shamanic Journeying by Sandra Ingram, and Awakening to the Spirit World by Sandra Ingerman and Hank Wesselman. Both books teach journeying to the spirit world and come with a CD that has drumming and rattling to facilitate the journeying process. Hope this information helps and I pray you find peace of mind. Relaxation techniques may be helpful also. God Bless!

Perhaps your answers true in some cases. But I myself know spiritual walking is when your Spirit leave your body and can be connected with a religion or a faith in God where is the spirit enter the spirit world killing demons

        Sep 17, 2020 @ 10:58:21

Taina, Although I don’t follow specific religious beliefs, I do believe God created everything in the universe and that we are all God’s children. God wants us to make the world a better place to live by loving and caring for each other regardless of our specific beliefs. Regarding journeying, we must form an intention before making the journey. The intention should include what “good” we wish to accomplish as well as a request to have helpful spirits assisting us. Helpful spirits keep us safe from the negative influences of evil demons.

everywhere I go I am in a different state of mind
I don’t know how to say it clearly. Am I different, why didn’t I pass before I did. WHO AM I?

Talon, The experience you described is NOT spirit walking. In spirit walking you would be in control of the journey at all times. I strongly recommend you get professional counseling. And if you have been using any ‘recreational’ substances to stop immediately. God Bless! Stay safe!
